Author's Notes / Version Updates

Version FINAL 12-19-04 - Yo! + here. This is the final version of this guide. Yes it was rushed. Yes there are typos. Yes I really don't give a rat's ass. I tried to make it as simple as possible. But if you still don't get it, open up google and try another guide. + out...

Getting Started

So you want to learn how to leech off of mIRC fservers and XDCC bots eh? It's really quite simple once you get the hang of it. But before I get into any details, you'll need the lastest version of mIRC. You can simply download the lastest version over at mIRC.com. Simply click on the download section and download it for yourself. If you already have an older version of mIRC installed on you computer, I recommend that you upgrade to the latest version for greater security and usiblity. Install the program and then carefully read the help files. Trust me.. Most of your early questions will be answered in the help files. Plus you'll learn how to set up your mIRC clinet to connect to a server, so I won't have to waste time explaining that >>. Once you done all of that. Open up the mIRC client by clicking on the icon on your desktop or wherever you install mIRC onto. Set it up and connect to whatever server you want to connect to. Before beginning to leech anything, I would recommend that you try out mIRC for a while just as a chat componment. Once your familar with everything then follow the next section on how to set your mIRC client to DCC leech.

Setting Your mIRC Client to Recieve Files

So now you have your mIRC client installed, running, and is connected to a server (if you can't figure out how to connect on your own you really shouldn't be trying to leech on IRC). By now you should just about have the slight gist of knowing how to use mIRC. Now heres a couple of steps to configure your client to receive files through its DCC server.

Step One
First access the mIRC options menu. You can do this by clicking on the little folder and hammer icon next to the connect/disconnect button. Or by clicking on the tools drop-down menu and going down to Options.
Step Two
When you are in the Options menu drop down the Connect menu, Select Options and click on the Advance button. A window like above should appear. Check the port range for DCC, type 1024 under First and 5000 under Last. Make sure "Use random ports" is checked also and press ok.

Step Three
Now move down from Connect to DCC. Check Auto-get file and minimize if you like. Same with the On Chat requests. If your more concern with recieving files, then check the options above the one list in the image to the right. Do not check Ignore all if you want to leech on IRC.

Now move down to Options under DCC. Under On completion check close window on Send and Get.

Now move down to Ignore under DCC, set the method to disabled.

Now move down to Server, Check Enable DCC Server, listen on port 59, and listen for Send and Chat. Now when that's done click Ok and you're ready to leech :p

FSERV Guide (File Server)

The Basics
A Fserve (file server) is probably the most common type of file sharing on every mIRC network. Browsing and downloading files from them require you to know very basic mDOS commands. Below is a list of the typical types of Fserve commands you must know:

DIR - shows directory
CD [folder name] - jump/change folders
GET [file name + extension] - download a certain file
HELP - shows all the file servers commands

Get to know these commands very well. Because if you plan on downloading via Fserve you'll be using these quite a bit!

Fserve Ads
There are several differnt types of fserve ads out there, mostly depending on the client the file server is using. Heres several examples:

UPP File Server Ad

Sysreset File Server Ad

These are probably the more common types of file server ads. Take note of the Min cps, the minimun send speed, and the number of send and queue slots.

Listing the Channel for File Servers
To list a channel for fserve's simply type !list into the channel window, when you get flooded by many many colors, you know that it worked.

Entering a Fserve
After reviewing the list of file servers, select a server you would like to enter and download from. Let's take this fsever ad for example:

To enter the fserve type in the "trigger" into your mIRC status window, you could past it into the channel window but to avoid mistakes do it in the status window. The trigger for this certain fserve happens to be "/ctcp _minus !test"

Simulation
Once you are in the file server, the rest is up to whelter or not you are not idiotic enough to not understand basic mDOS commands. Heres a sample simulation of how things work:

Upon Entering

Revealing what is in the file server

Entering a folder

Showing contents of another folder

Entering a folder

Returning to the previous folder

Showing contents of another folder

Getting a file

If you were able to follow all of that. Congrats! You are ready to leech from fserves!

XDCC Help

XDCC File Severs are like the newest and bestest way to leech! Well not really, but it's quite popular among fansub groups and scanlation groups. Downloading from these severs are much much more easiler than going through all that fserve stuff. Heres a sample XDCC file server:

[D-W]BOT ** 1 packs ** 3 of 3 slots open, Queue: 0/20, Min: 3.0KB/s, Max: 200.0KB/s, Record: 1019.8KB/s
[D-W]BOT ** To request a file, type "/msg [D-W]BOT xdcc send #x" **
[D-W]BOT #1 565x [9.4M] [D-W] .Hack - I@Yume [English].zip
[D-W]BOT Total Offered: 226.9 MB Total Transferred: 160.69 GB

Basically to use a XDCC Server, you'll need to know several things. 1)That the channel has a XDCC Bot 2)If you are allow to list the bot. Once you have confirmed that the channel does indeed have a bot and you are allowed to use it, first thing you'll need to do is list the bot. Let's take [D-W]BOT as a test subject. To list his packlist, you will have to type "/msg [D-W]BOT XDCC list". This will/maybe reveal the packlist like above. The command is the same for all bots just replace the name of the bot with another. Heres the basic syntax if u havent caught on yet: /msg [BOTNAME] XDCC LIST.

To get a file from the bot you will have to be able to identify the pack # of the file. Refering to the sample packlist above the pack # for "[D-W] .Hack - I@Yume [English].zip" is #1. To get the file follow this simple syntax: "/ctcp [BOTNAME] XDCC send #[pack #]". In [D-W]BOT's case, to receive the file "[D-W] .Hack - I@Yume [English].zip", the command would be /ctcp [D-W]BOT XDCC SEND #1.

You'll know it's all good when a nice little download window appears just like froming downloading from a Fserve.

Too lazy to add more. This is it, use google for all your other questions...
